In a surprising twist, Apple Maps appears to be planning a feature that Google Maps hasn’t had for years, instead of basing their functionality on their chief competitor as they’ve always done. This addition emphasizes Apple’s attempts to not only catch up with Google Maps, but also provide its users something different. For the longest time Apple Maps have been considered to be lacking behind Google Maps which is regarded as the ‘khaleesi’ of maps apps. In so many ways, Google Maps has always lived up to the title. From live updates to serving images of places, Google Maps has it all. But Apple Maps wasn’t idle as new services were being added to the platform, many features were incremented notably the ones Google Maps owned so that Apple could level the playing field. But first Apple plans to make strides that allow them to sit with the rising e bike community. This new functionality that app developer and journalist Steve Moser uncovered on the 4th of July. The term "E-Bike" is referenced, but there is a possibility that this is a planned development that will better support routing with the help of electric bikes.
The feature is still very much being developed and is not available to the public and so implies that Apple Is still testing and perfecting it. Though everything is unclear, what will set it apart is what exactly.
